E.coli – A Common Food Poisoning Bacterium

E.coli

E.coli is a bacterium similar to Salmonella that comes in many forms and is present in all of us. Some strains are highly beneficial and essential to providing us with Vitamin K and are present in all of us.

Other forms of E.coli however, can be the cause of severe food poisoning. They enter the body either by eating undercooked meat, poorly washed vegetables or drinking dirty water. The result is vomiting and diarrhoea. The typical E.coli bacterium is a mere 1-2 μm long and is able to survive for long periods outside its host. This ability means that it is one of the most common bacteria in existence.

To prevent getting ill, especially when travelling to countries where there are higher concentrations of E.coli, a Water-to-Go filter water bottle can be used in two ways:
